An effectively working air conditioner is our savior during the hottest days of the year. However, many times you notice that your air conditioner is not cooling with much effectiveness despite consuming serious number of electricity units. Calling for service involves a lot of hassle and is pretty expensive at the same time.


In order to reduce the chances of having to call the service center, you can take various corrective and preventive steps to keep your air conditioner in a good working condition.

If the air conditioner unit is not working at all, possibility is that there are issues related to power supply to the air conditioner or the compressor. You should check the power cable if it has been broken or melted due to high temperature. Also, you should check the air filter to see if it requires cleaning or a total replacement.


 


If you have confirmed that everything, including the fan belt, coil, air filter, power supplies, timer, thermostat, is working fine, it's the time when you should call the service center. Your preliminary analysis will still be helpful as the service center won't be able to charge you for the items that you have verified and found working well.

You can use a water hose to clean the air conditioner coil but only after making sure that air conditioner is not connected to the power supply. You should also check the air filters regularly to see if they require cleaning. If they do, you can use a brush and a vacuum cleaner to clear them off the dust particles they are clogged with. However, if you find that the air filter has been damaged, you should get it replaced with an appropriately sized one.
